One of the easiest ways to make your home feel comfortable and welcoming is to fill it with wonderful scents. Which scents are best depends not only on your personal tastes but also which scents accompany your favorite memories or the types of feelings you want to bring to mind. This is because wider memories and emotions are known to be strongly tied to the scents that were present when they were formed.
There are several ways you can bring specific scents into your Lake Oswego apartment. We have listed some of the most popular below.
Surefire Ways to Bring Wonderful Scents Into Your Home
Use a Diffuser.
Diffusers come in a variety of forms, ranging from basic to ornate. Some are meant to spread the scent of natural essential oils into a room, while others work with proprietary formulas. Either way, the right oil or formula will quickly make everything smell great.
Boil Potpourri Herbs.
Potpourri has long been a favorite of those who love natural scents. You can use traditional potpourri herbs for the usual effects, but the same method can also be used with fruits like apples and oranges, spices like cinnamon, and more. It's easy to customize potpourri for seasonal effects or to simulate the scents of home cooking.
Bake Bread.
This is a great way to bring a warm and homey feeling to your apartment. It's especially effective on holidays where home cooking is traditional. You can make your bread from scratch, or go the easy way and bake up loaves from the store's frozen foods aisle.
Use a Standard Air Freshener Product.
For the fastest results, just spray some air freshener into a room or put out a Renuzit®. Both options can smell great, though they rarely achieve a perfect match of the scent they're going for.
These are just some of the many ways you can use scent to freshen up your Kruseway Commons apartment in Lake Oswego or give it the feeling of home. Experiment and see which ones you like best!

At Kruseway Commons, we're all about providing residents with living spaces that fit their personalities and needs. Not only should apartment homes look good, but they should also make you feel good. Here are some great ways to add elegance, coziness, and style to your home—without breaking the bank!
5 Ways to Make Your Apartment Feel Elegant
Choose artisan home decor.
Artisan home products are handcrafted for style and uniqueness. These items are not mass-produced, but you may find them at antique shops, online craft marketplaces (like Etsy), and at arts and craft shows. From tabletop lamps to dining chairs, and from hand-quilted throws to hand-painted kitchen dishes, artisan-style home products will add a fancy and special look to your home.
Set out fresh flowers.
Fresh flowers will not only add a fresh and delightful scent to your home, but it is also one of the best ways to add softness and color to any room. Inexpensive flowers can be found at your local supermarket. And, when you add a few unique vases that can easily be found at local flea markets, you take your home from bleak to chic. Select flowers that contrast your home's decor. If your interior has muted tones, then choose flowers with a punch of color.
Hang an art gallery.
Wall art is an important feature that interior designers use to add interest to a room. Forego the single-framed pictures placed here and there. Instead, group your family photos, artistic prints, and hand-painted art in an interesting collage. Don't forget to explore other types of wall art, such as glass plates or found objects that make classy and unique wall pieces.
Style with textures.
A beautiful way to add a luxurious feel to any home is to layer textures throughout. Add area rugs, throws, pillows, and linen, cotton, or silk tablecloths mixed with natural elements like bamboo baskets, clay pots, and table-top wood sculptures can create a timeless and classy space. But remember, less is more. Never overcrowd your interior space or you'll end up with a cluttered look instead of elegant.
Add soft lighting.
For a final touch of elegance, add multiple lighting sources that supply a soft, natural glow within the home. Table lamps, standing lamps, track lighting, pendants, and wall sconces all make excellent choices to vary the amount and direction of light. Keep window coverings light and airy for plenty of natural lighting during the day.

As a resident of our Lake Oswego apartments, you know how satisfying it is to finally be able to decorate your living space the way you want. After you’ve placed all your furniture in the perfect spots, you’ll want to hang your photos and artwork in order to put the finishing touches on your new home so that it reflects your personality. However, when you’re first moving in and setting everything up, you may not own a level to ensure that all of your wall art is hung straight. You could purchase a level at a nearby home improvement store, but you can also easily hang pictures straight without a level. Here are some tips.
Tips for Hanging Pictures Straight in Your Apartment
If you have a measuring tape and some painter's tape, you can mark off where to hang pictures so that they’re straight. First, you need to ascertain the center of the picture from the front side. If you’re uncertain where the center of the picture is, lay it down and use your measuring tape to find the center. Mark the center with a small piece of tape.
Next, decide where you want the bottom of the picture to be. Mark the spot on the wall with a tiny dot with a pencil. Then, start your measurement from the floor and go up to the dot, noting the number of inches. Place a piece of painter's tape horizontally at that spot. Next, measure up from the floor again, this time several inches to the side. Be sure not to go beyond the width of the picture you’re hanging. When you reach the correct number of inches, place another piece of tape. Now all you have to do is place your picture so the bottom is flush with the tops of the two pieces of tape. Holding the picture in place, use your pencil to mark another tiny dot where you should place the nail, using that first piece of tape as your marker. Finally, you don’t want to leave tape and pencil dots, so erase the dots and carefully remove all your tape. Voila! A perfectly straight picture without ever having to use a level!

A flat-screen television may be on your holiday wish-list, but you may wonder where is the best location for a large TV. Well, the first thing you want to consider is to face the TV in a location that minimizes sun glare. The easiest way to fix this is to position the TV so it does not face a window. Here are more helpful tips to get the best viewing enjoyment and interior look from a large-screen TV.
Use the large-screen TV as a room focal point.
For apartment living, the best solution may be to bring the television to the forefront of the room's decor. This means making it the focal point—or the first thing people notice when they enter the room. A room's focal point is usually the center of a seating area or a wall with a mantle and/or fireplace. It doesn't matter if you place the TV high or low; if the TV is the focal point, then all seating in that room faces the TV in a central location.
Blend the TV into your decor.
For a not so obvious TV location, integrate your big-screen TV into the room's decor. This may be on a bookshelf or any location that seems like a natural fit. Keep in mind that blending a TV into your decor may not put it in the best location for viewing. Seating should be between 5 feet and 8 feet away from the TV screen, and if wall mounting is an option, make sure it is not mounted so high that it causes neck strain while watching.
Hide the flat-screen TV.
Finally, you can always conceal a flat-screen TV in a cabinet, armoire, or bookcase with closing doors. Another option is to place the TV on a portable cart to move the TV in or out of the room as you see fit. This is also a good option for making one TV transportable to more than one indoor location.
Find your next Lake Oswego, OR apartment at Kruseway Commons. We offer one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments with bright and roomy interiors—the perfect location for enjoying your favorite shows on a large-screen television.
